I tend to disagree with the more extreme takes, like Rurik’s, of “Putin & co are just Western puppets”, and your description looks like much closer to reality: The Russian Oligarchy is not directly subordinated to US - Western interests, BUT it needs Western financial institutions like offshore foreign currency accounts in order to properly manage its ill gotten gains.

Your posts are great and very instructive, Dr. Livci. I'm hooked to your blog. Also, the few things I every now and then check out online seem to be fairly in keeping with history and facts. However, these posts are hard to read because they tend to be a bit too long (excuse me for being a bore) and also because of missing commas in subordinate sentences, missing apostrophes (Russias, Komis, etc. instead of Russia's, Komi's), often unintelligible acronyms, plus some jargon terms ("feni" for instance) that force the non initiated and/or non native English speaker (let alone Russian-savvy) to search online for their meaning. I'm trying to be constructive with this criticism.
Ill try and get commas and apostrophes down but I honestly I feel proud of myself if I can just make a post with less then 2 spelling errors per paragraph. It's funny that you as a non native English Speaker have a better grasp for English Grammar than me.
Thank you. Not the first time I'm told that. But maybe it's precisely my poor handling of English what makes me need a neat grammar. If I were a native speaker I'd probably be able to read fluently any text, like I do in my mother tongue, and not even notice missing commas or whatever. I guess that's typically the issue with people who learn a foreign language at school, most of all when teachers are poorly prepared, as was the case in my time: too much grammar and too little fluent conversation.
